Health and Safety

In general, health and safety laws apply to all businesses, no matter how small. If you are an employer, a self-employed person or a person in control of work premises, you are responsible for health and safety in your business. You need to take the right precautions to reduce the risks of workplace dangers and provide a safe working environment. To help reduce the risks it is important to carry out risk assessments and if you have five or more employees then you must have the risks written down.

As well as risk assessments, you should also be aware of safe systems of work (working procedures (WPs), standard operating procedures (SOPs), method statements etc) and policies and procedures.

A statement produced by the Health and Safety Excecutive showing what is required from employers and employees can be found here.
